Jeremy Essig is a comedian, journalist, musician and fictional character killed by zombies in Jonathan Maberry’snovel Fall of Night.

As a comedian, Essig’s style was described as “intelligent cynicism” by Indianapolis’ Nuvo magazine.  He was dubbed a “comic to watch” both by St. Louis Magazine and The Riverfront Times and his three albums have received play on satellite radio.  He has also appeared multiple times on NPR, over twenty times on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom show and featured on the podcast Doug Loves Movies.  Essig also created the game show Loser. – A Live Action Shame Show which toured nationally and on Feb. 3 2017 his fourth comedy album “Whatever” was released by On Tour Records.  Multiple tracks from the album have received extensive play on Sirius/XM radio.

While touring over 200 dates a year as a comedian, Essig began pursuing a graduate degree in journalism in 2009.  Originally covering state and national politics for the Columbia Missourian and Missouri Digital News, before becoming an associate editor for both publications.  He would also write for the Columbia Business Times before freelancing as a music writer and reviewer for Eleven Magazine.  Essig continues to contribute to The Riverfront Times.

In 2016, Essig joined St. Louis based garage rockers Shark Dad, debuting on the 7” “Conversation” in 2017, a track written by Essig and featuring him on guitar and vocals.  He would continue with the band playing on their EP “Almost, Pink” and the full-length “Pink Motel,” both featuring music written by Essig.  He also fronts the band Let’s Not, whose debut “Glimmer” was released in April of 2018 and was described by Christian Schaeffer of The Riverfront Times as “a compelling middle ground between the crash-and-crunch of vintage Superchunk and the moody textures of the Cure.”  That same year, Essig joined the indie-folk group The Defeated County contributing organ and guitar.

Contrary to his fate in Fall of Night, Essig lives in St. Louis with his dog Grieco and runs his own recording studio Listless Sound.
